Tea Party Spreading to Europe!

How exciting to learn that the Tea Party Movement is gaining in popularity both in the U.S. and abroad.  First, I read where Italy had its first Tea Party June 26th (dig the "Don't tread on me" on the Italian banner!)  Temple of Mut has an interview with the event's organizer David Mazerrelli.  Here's an excerpt:
MUT: How did you first learn of the American Tea Party movement?
I first heard about the Tea Party movement during the first American demonstrations (February of 2009) , then I followed on Fox News the great event of September 2009 (Sept. 12 March on Wasington D.C. in which over 1.5 million people participated) and I was very impressed.
MUT: How does the Italian media portray the American Tea Party movement?
Unfortunately, in Italy, the Tea Party movement has had little space in the media. Italian media often speak only about Sarah Palin, but do not give much room for Tea Party. But there are newspapers that speak of many blogs on the Internet and the subject. European culture does not understand why millions of people can take to the streets to demand less government, lower taxes, and the fact officials should respect personal freedom and the people’s right to do whatever they want with their money.
Click here for the rest of the interview.

I then discovered an exciting website: The European Tea Party Movement with the slogan "Give me liberty, not debt."  It lists member groups, with accompanying links, in Belgium, Germany, Britain, Holland, France, Luxembourg, Italy, the U.S. (naturally!), and even Israel! Each group lists only a handfull of those who have signed on as members on the website and indicates that they've been active for about 2 months at the most.

The European Tea Party Movement can be visited, too, on Facebook.  Their description is:
"Europe lacks a strong voice for reducing public-sector spending and debt. A voice against bailouts for banks or countries. We rally around the principle of individual rights and liberties against the burden of big government.  INVITE YOUR FRIENDS!"
It's fun to look at the photos they have, many of which are of t-shirts bashing Obama.

It's also active on Twitter (EuroTeaParty), although tweet activity is quite low compared to of followers (27:159).  But, it looks like the Twitter account wasn't set up until Feb. of this year.

I Love It!   I Love It!   I Love It!   I Love It!   I Love It!

By the way, I still find it amusing that Blogger's spell check still does not recognize "Obama."  Hee, hee!

Thanks for posting this! I'm an Italian American and I'm thrilled to see they are not all socialists over there!
