On a smaller and yet no less impactful scale is the family of fallen police officer Norvelle Brown. This young St. Louis officer was killed in the line of duty in August of 2007. (I have blogged about this hero twice before here and here.) With teary eyes the other day I watched on TV how his amazing family has since come forward and set up a scholarship fund in Brown's honor. Here's the story from KSDK's website (emphasis added):
And here's the video version of the story:Students receive scholarships in memory of fallen office

KSDK -- A scholarship in memory of a fallen police officer is helping more area seniors go to college. Norvelle Brown was a 7th district officer killed on the job in 2007.
Jo'el Williams is passionate about his music and his plans to graduate from college to work in anesthesiology. The future for Kevin Jones may include law school and a goal to improve our government.
Ally Brown fought back her emotions as she proudly made a special presentation in memory of her son. Four high school graduates were named the recipients of the 2010 Norvelle Brown Scholarship.
It was August 15, 2007 when Officer Norvelle Brown was shot and killed in the line of duty. A scholarship created in his memory is now a gift to college bound young adults.
"Recently my father...both his kidneys failed and he can't work anymore and he is on Social Security, so that put a burden on our family," said award recipient Rachel Fenton.
"I'm going to Mizzou and I'm going to need as much help as possible," said award recipient Tenee Taylor.
The four students were chosen by a committee of citizens, community leaders and officers from the district. Each student received a check for $1,000.
What a brave, generous and considerate family!
