Anti-Terror Official Stayed on Ski Trip After Learning of Failed Bomb Plot
National Counterterrorism Center Director Michael Leiter didn't cut his holiday ski trip short upon learning of the attempted bombing of a Detroit-bound airliner Christmas Day, the New York Daily News reports.Looks like it wasn't just Obama that didn't want to interrupt his vacation. I guess, like Obama, Leiter is tired and exhausted, too. Maybe if a friend of Leiter's had had a surfboard accident, he would have acted on that.
Leiter, who is in charge of analyzing terror threats, reportedly didn't return to his office post in McLean, Va., until several days after the holiday, and his decision to do so has been looked down upon by intelligence officials.
"People have been grumbling that he didn't let a little terrorism interrupt his vacation," a source told the Daily News.
The NCTC has been heavily scrutinized for failing to "connect the dots" on Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, the Nigerian suspect tied to the failed bombing attempt on the Northwest Airlines jet.
Leiter's spokesman did not say when he returned from the trip and fully retook the reigns of the agency.
