The clothing chain Urban Outfitters continues drawing fire from various groups for controversial t-shirts. Last year, UO drew criticism from the Jewish community for its sale of a pro-violence, pro-Palestinian t-shirt. With the word "Victimized" across the top, it showed a boy holding an AK-47, the Palestinian flag, a map of the Palestinian territories and a small white dove. [source]Now, BabalúBlog is reporting that UO is presently selling the t-shirts depicting: t-shirts of Che Guevara alongside others with "socialism" and "communism" printed on them. Ironically, there is also a t-shirt with John F. Kennedy. (How stupid are these people?)
This company obviously has no scruples, using anything to generate controversy and money. A few years ago, they sold a board game: "Ghettopoly." MSNBC reported: "Black leaders are outraged over a new board game called “Ghettopoly” that has “playas” acting like pimps and game cards reading, “You got yo whole neighborhood addicted to crack. Collect $50.”" [source]
This is the same clothing retailer than generated controversy when it sold "keffiyehs" -- the traditional scarves that Yasser Arafat made popular, symbolizing Palestine. (Check out Wikipedia for UO's anti-Christian, anti-Jewish/Israel, and pro-violence controversies.)
As Babalú puts it, "Urban Outfitters: Hypocrits, Communists, or Just Plain Old Dumbasses?"
