Why in the hell do young Americans idolize Che Guevara?!? I am always shocked at the ignoramuses ('ignorami?") who walk around wearing their goofy Che t-shirts, obviously ignorant of what a horrible beast he was! I wonder why the hell they don't wear t-shirts with Lenin and Hitler on them. And, the movie "Motorcycle Diaires" released in 2004 doesn't help, either. But, then again, we've seen some of the Hollywood idiots rubbing elbows with their good friend Fidel Castro, so why wouldn't they think Che was a cool dude?Che was a hardline, extremist Marxist-Leninist who oversaw Cuba's first firing squads and founded its "labor camps", overseeing the execution of many Cuban men and women. The 'undesirables' of cuban society were incarcerated in the labor camps: anti-Castro dissidents, homosexuals, and the infirmed.
I love the image I have attached to this article. I plan to buy a t-shirt with it and wear it down to the U-City Loop -- St. Louis' hang-out for its super cool Bohemian college crowd. I would love to engage a couple of Che's fans in conversation and enlighten the little spoiled Hippies about the realities of Che, their beloved "Revolutionary", and the wonderful living and political conditions of Cuba.

Lenin was great and the worlds greatest communist. Hitler was evil.
I totally agree how ignorant people are about the real Che'.
Do check my post that deals with such ignorance.

What a bunch of fascists! I love you guys!
I want to specially thank your parents for the outstanding education they gave you, and also thank you for such a deep understanding about Che Guevara's life and symbolism.
I stop by and couldn't avoid posting a comment. Please keep on bringing ignorant people like you to the world; it will be a much functional, cleaner and organized place to live. Who the hell cares about social equality? Right? Oh, I'm sorry, I'm pretty sure you collaborate with your neighborhood's church on the weekends...
Kind regards! Have a good life.
Wow, Santiago. Your ideas are rather disjointed. You managed to throw my parents, church, social equality, and Che's "life and symbolism" all into one pot. You obviously know nothing about any of those.
You did, however, typify the usual Che fan: you couldn't intelligently and succinctly argue any points, but instead resorted to cheap shots.
People look up to Che for his desire to end social injustice. It's true that some who regard Che as a hero may not be fully aware of his revolutionary actions, but this article was little else besides condescending bigotry disguised as American patriotism. Yes, Communism and its leaders have its flaws, as did (does) the United States and the people who represent it. You mention labor camps, and yet this country has had its fair share of slavery and segregation; and currently, in many states homosexual marriage is still illegal--under a democratic constitution that calls for equality. And I'm sure the "little spoiled hippies" may be some of the same zealots who love, say, Obama without really understanding his policies. There are fools masquerading as justified intellectuals everywhere, and this post was just another example.
Inyela: I would propose that you do some checking into the real Che. "Communism and its leaders have its flaws?!?" How about the millions of people the Communists slaughtered in relatively short time, even more efficiently than the Nazis? Homosexuals still not having the right to marry in the U.S? How does that compare to sending them to the Che-designed concentration camps, along with other "undesireables." Che wished to end social injustice? How about some of the racist comments he made about Blacks?
I hardly think of myself as a "justified intellectual." I do, however, don't buy everything hook, line and sinker without checking into it myself.
Neither do I. I've done my research; I am aware of "the real Che". I suggest you do the same with the issues you commentate on in such a single-faceted manner.
